Denese Mentor

In 2004, Denese opened her massage studio, specializing in the treatment of muscle problems, both bio-mechanical and postural, by combining various techniques to release the muscles.

Denese assesses each of her clients to determine the cause of the problem, so she can treat the problem not the symptom. She treats most areas of painful muscle dysfunction, including the very common areas of neck, shoulder and lower back.

The feet and legs are another common area for pain and without a good foundation for the body through the feet, mechanical problems such as pronation or high arches can eventually affect knees and hips as the muscles compensate. When not treated, these can result in hip and knee replacements.

Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia are notoriously hard to treat conventionally. Medication is used to relieve pain, but these have side effects. Denese uses therapeutic massage to soothe the muscles and release tension.

Denese uses various techniques at her disposal to allow the body to heal itself.

Denese completed a Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2001 at the Academy of Natural Therapies at the Gold Coast encompassing these treatment therapies:

  • Deep tissue
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Lymphatic massage
  • Aromatherapy
  • Reflexology
  • Other complementary massage therapies

Myopractic Techniques

This therapy allows the release of particular muscles and for the body to be brought into balanced structural alignment.

It works to relieve chronic pain working with the deep muscle tissue in combination with structural integration or harmony between the individual’s body and the surrounding gravitational field.

The fascia, a web-like connective tissue in the organs, bones, muscles, and blood vessels are manipulated into a position of harmony and balance.

Reflexology and Foot Massage

Reflexology is based on the principle that congestion or tension in any part of the foot’s reflex points mirrors that in a corresponding part of the body.

Some treatments are gentle in nature, aiming to restore systems for better function while others are more specific, addressing a particular condition.

It is a healing process that can be used when it is not convenient to treat other body parts. As a non-intrusive technique, it heals indirectly.

Reflexology can be a relaxing therapy that works on many levels, soothing, calming, balancing and boosting the entire body.

Reflexology can facilitate relief for:

  • Sinus pain
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Migraines
  • Pre-menstrual syndrome and other menstrual irregularities
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Sciatica
  • Asthma
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain

Emmett Technique

Emmett Therapy is a muscle activation technique used to unlock muscle memory. A practitioner has the skills to asses a client to find the initial activation that created the neuro muscular problem.

Light pressure sequences are used to release the problem areas and the effect can be almost instantaneous. This activation gives the brain the opportunity to set up a new state of homeostatis and provides an opportunity for realignment of the body.

Symptoms that can be relieved include:

  • Neck and shoulder restriction and referred discomfort
  • Lymphatic congestion and breathing
  • Migraine and cluster headaches
  • Abdominal cramps and bowel discomfort
  • Persistent heel and foot pain
  • Headaches, dizziness and sinus congestion
  • Back and hip discomfort
  • Knee and ankle restrictions
  • Fluid retention
  • Pregnancy related issues
  • And many more!

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage increases the oxygen flow in the blood and releases toxins from the muscles. It feels good, is relaxing and invigorating.

This massage uses a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and shaking motions that apply pressure between muscles and bones, rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.

Some benefits of Relaxation massage include:

  • Shortened recovery time from muscular strain
  • Increased circulation without increased heart load
  • Stretching of ligaments and tendons
  • Skin stimulation
  • Soothing of the nervous system
  • Stress reduction – both emotional and physical.

Foot Joint Mobilisation Therapies

Because the feet are the foundation of the body, any instability or misalignment in the feet can affect the whole body.

Micro changes in the feet and joints are often due to daily use, work or sports stress and trauma, rather than more obvious events such as sprains and breaks. It’s these tiny changes that initially cause feet discomfort and if left to worsen, cause consequent structural problems.

The effects of foot joint mobilisation can be felt not only locally in the feet and ankles, but also through the legs, pelvis, back and even the head and neck, fixing these problems rather than resorting to surgery.

Foot joint mobilisation applies gentle pressure and manipulation to the various structures of the foot to:

  • Re-align the bones within the feet
  • Reduce pain
  • Reduce swelling
  • Increase mobility
  • Restore normal gait
  • Increase range of motion.
